The City of Goodland, Kansas (4,489) is looking for a dynamic leader to serve as its Chief of Police. Goodland is a progressive, full-service Northwest Kansas community with a high quality of life. Reporting to the City Manager, the Chief of Police is a key member of the City’s management team and is responsible for the operations of the 10-member Police Department. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and will have a minimum of 10 years in law enforcement, with demonstrated supervisory experience. The position will require someone with good communication, creative thinking, and collaborative skills. It is essential that this person be innovative, forward-thinking and possess the capacity and interest to be an effective mentor for staff. The ideal candidate will have a proactive law enforcement approach, but will also understand the unique dynamics of rural Kansas. This individual will be a visible leader and will have a genuine interest in actively participating in the community.
This executive level position is responsible for departmental budgeting, and enforcing and supervising all aspects of police operations including but not limited to directing patrol, traffic, criminal investigations and animal control. The selected individual will be expected to bring effective leadership to the department while maintaining a customer service focus and community-oriented policing program. The candidate will develop the vision, mission and values of the department in support of the priorities of the City Manager and the City Commission.
