The City of Goodland Fire Department was established in 1890 and currently has twenty volunteer firemen, and one full time Fire Chief. The Fire Chief is responsible for: Doing Pre-Plans, Testing Fire Hydrants, Fire Inspections, Training for the Firemen, Testing Fire Hose, Basic Maintenance on Fire Equipment, Filling out the Fire Reports, Giving out Burn Permits, and Fire Code Enforcement.
The Fire Chief is stationed at Fire Station #1, 1006 Center, and is there Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Volunteers train from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of every month. The City of Goodland Fire Department has an ISO rating of a 5. The goal of the Fire Department is to have this rating go to a 4 and then to a 3. Brian James, Fire Chief can be reached at 785-890-4545.
